Video: Nokia 3310 versus Armour Piercing Rounds – TechAssassin

Posted: 06 Jun 2013 01:52 PM PDT

Screen Shot 2013-06-06 at 21.48.11What happens when you put the strongest material known to man against armour piercing rounds?

The indestructible 3310 are precisely that. But these are apparently dead 3310, so they’ve lost their soul hence why they exploded. Or just fake 3310s as per comments.

Quite epic to watch regardless.

Lumiappdates: Vine browsing support, filters and more for Twitter, Facebook bug fixes, Netflix and Ringtones app

MNBwp_ss_20130606_0001

There’s an update to Twitter, Facebook Beta, Netflix and Ringtones.

The twitter update seems to have a lot of new features. The tweet function sees easier image uploading with filter support that has quite a lot of editing options just for a twitpic.

Facebook – bug fixes/performance. Netflix, not sure what’s new there..

Nokia EOS Hands on mini Review

Posted: 06 Jun 2013 12:33 PM PDT

HANDS ON EOS NOKIA

There’s a quick mini review from Vizileaks of the Nokia EOS. It appears from some of the wording that they were given some special access as they we’re allowed to do certain things like connecting to a computer to view specs/camera sample resolutions (though I guess that should have been noted in the camera UI, no? At least the max photo size not sensor size). Some bits sound weird, although having played with it, it sometimes feel like third party experience. e.g. feeling it but not being able to tell whether the shell is polycarbonate or metal. Otherwise it apparently feels great in the hand (though the weighty part worries me).

BTW Some of you noticed that one of the icons on the screen was wrong. It may be part of Nokia’s techniques for working out where leaks are coming from (‘subtle’ UI changes connected to particular testers)

SnapChat app, SwapChat available in Store #jrmo333

I still haven’t used SnapChat, but I have downloaded SwapChat from the store. It’s available for £0.99 with a free version in the works. This is one of many SnapChat clients becoming available in the store.

My account is jrmo333 although I don’t really understand what I’ll be using it for.

Nokia EOS Working Model – Shows off Sunlight Readability in Glaring sunshine

Posted: 06 Jun 2013 07:51 AM PDT

NOKIA EOS MNB

Until now, we have just seen photos of parts from an assembly lineinternal components, the device from all angles and so forth.

So the gunmetal EOS is now on and showing off the sunlight readability feature – something not shouted about enough despite how much more usable it makes your smartphone in the sun.

It’s the same Lumia design you first saw sitting in the grass. It could still be a 920 as the front is nigh on identical EXCEPT the sensors at the top are placed slightly different (FFC more on the sides, in the 920 it’s closer to the midline).

ViziLeaks has just posted a photo showing the Lumia EOS with the standard Windows Phone start screen, claiming that the device they have on hand is “working”.

Is it just me, or does the music + videos tile not look right?

Design Tweaks 2: Nokia EOS Hump/Hump/Lump redesigned

Here’s another designer tackling the Bump of the Nokia EOS.

http://mynokiablog.com/2013/06/05/design-tweaks-nokia-eos-circle-hump-ideaconcept/

Note, the massive circle is for the massive sensor. The size of the lens is more manageable but the sensor might be less forgiving.

I’ve read some good discussion so far in bump/lump/hump ideas so feel free to mention them here.

Note that this style is more in keeping with the Fabula design but may reduce the maximum sensor size

Nokia Lumia 928 top 3 for Verizon so far?

Posted: 06 Jun 2013 03:19 AM PDT

top 3 verizon

According to Canaccord, the Nokia Lumia 928 is in the top 3 of sales for Verizon along with the Apple iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy SIV.

The same usual warnings apply over posts like these, i.e. no sales numbers to reference. But we like to be optimistic and this can be looked on quite positively, especially given that Verizon is the number 1 carrier in terms of size in the US.

Note for comparison Nokia’s presence in February with AT&T and the Nokia Lumia 920. That made Nokia the top 3 Vendor with Apple and Samsung. Did you feel that translated into sales?  Top 3 is meaningless given that the top 1 or 2 could have the majority proportion (and likely does). Still, it’s best to be there than no where.

Rumour: Instagram coming as Lumia exclusive on June 26? (But we already have Instance so it’s ok)

Posted: 06 Jun 2013 01:29 AM PDT

Instagram. The only reason it was craved so much was for the ability to POST pictures to that social network from our Nokia Lumia/WP devices and connect through photos in a way that YouTube might be for videos, twitter for short thoughts and facebook – well, for whatever. It was never really about the filters that degrade your photo (or for potato cameras, hide that it was taken by a potato).

We have quite a few solutions now. I’m a fan of Instance (previously Idstagram) which is pinned up top on my homescreen. I don’t feel I’m missing out at all from not having the official client. The filters which I rarely use, I’d rather use third party editing apps anyway.

New rumour has it that from June 26th, there will be an official Instagram client. Perhaps that will be the one more geared towards the masses expecting something called Instagram. Nokia’s #2instawithlove campaign highlighted just how much Nokia users love sharing photos so it only makes sense that it appears as a Lumia exclusive even if just initially.

EOS Body Leaks Again, This Time in Red

Posted: 06 Jun 2013 12:27 AM PDT

In case you didn’t have  grasp on exactly how large the hole in the back of the EOS was here’s another leak to help you get your mind around it. This time the pictures appear to be from inside a factory assembly, which means that the phone is probably already in production phase *OMG*.

This leak also adds one more color to the EOS’s color palate (now at three: yellow, black and red) and it’s safe to assume that a white version is also in the works (the contrast of white/black for the bump might actually look really nice- but I’m hoping for a matte white finish this time).
