Power Without Wires: BuquTech Magnetyze Charging System for iPhone
By Todd Bernhard
One day, our Apple iDevices will power themselves wirelessly, sucking in power from elements in the air. Until then, we are stuck with wires and being tethered to a traditional power source. But some vendors are making products that bridge the gap. One such company is BuquTech, with its Magnetyze Charging System with Protective Case ($59.99). The Magentyze line is well designed and currently supports the iPhone 4, 4S, and promises a version for the iPhone 5 in the future. If you change phones, or if multiple family members have different devices. You can mix and match and preserve your investment.

Voice Search Coming to Google's Free Chrome Browser for iOS
By Jim Karpen
I tend to use Safari for my web browsing, but Google's Chrome browser (free) is a worthy competitor, especially now that you can simply speak your queries in order to do a search. Last week Google announced the new version would be available in the App Store "in the coming days" on the Google Chrome Blog. It's gradually rolling it out, so if you have Chrome and the update isn't yet available, it will be soon.

Apple CEO Tim Cook Confirms Jony Ive Working on Overhaul of iOS
By Jim Karpen
Apple CEO Tim Cook was interviewed for over an hour Tuesday at the annual All Things Digital conference, and, as usual, he was very tight-lipped about forthcoming products, dropping just the barest of hints. However, he did explicitly confirm that legendary Apple designer Jony Ive has been working on an overhaul of the iOS software and said iOS 7 will be introduced at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference, which begins June 10. Rumors that the interface will be "flatter"— with fewer textures and fewer visual metaphors for real-life objects— seem credible.

Best Buy Offering $50 Discount on iPhone 5, 4S
By Jim Karpen
Best Buy is offering a $50 discount on all iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S models from Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint for the next four weeks. That means you can get an iPhone 4S for as little as $49 and an iPhone 5 for $149. You will, of course, need to commit to a two-year contract. Given Apple's strict control on pricing, these sorts of promotions are rare, so it's a good time to buy if you're in the market for a new iPhone. There's no discount on the iPhone 4, because it's already available for free with a two-year contract.

iPhone Owners Are on Their Phones 53% More Than Android Users
The average American adult, according to a new survey by Experian's Simmons Connect, spends 58 minutes a day on his or her smartphone. But how much time they spend on the phone and what they do with it, depends a lot on whether it's an Apple (AAPL) iPhone or a Google (GOOG) Android device. In a summary of the findings posted Tuesday, Experian's John Fetto wrote: "For starters, iPhone users spend an hour and fifteen minutes using their phones per day, a full 26 minutes more than the typical Android phone owner. Additionally, iPhone and Android smartphone owners use their phones in markedly different ways.

Could This Beautiful Design Concept Be the iPhone 5S?
It won't be long until we're likely to get our first look at Apple iOS 7 at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) starting June 10. But after that, Apple's going to have to do something spectacular with its alleged iPhone 5S to keep up with smartphone juggernauts such as the Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One. iPhone speculators have lately been focusing on the possibility of a security-enhancing fingerprint scanner built into the next iPhone, and who better to visualize this than our favorite conceptual artist of all things iPhone, Federico Ciccarese?

Chicago Sun-Times Fires Photographers, Tells Reporters To Take iPhone Pictures
The Chicago Sun-Times on Thursday fired all 28 full-time photographers on staff, telling reporters they would be responsible for taking their own “in the field” pictures and sourcing photos from witnesses. Heads Up!
Warner Bros, $0.99
by Arthur Thares

With more than three-quarters of a million apps in the Apple App Store, it takes something really special to make a splash in the mainstream today. While very few apps can stand up to the wild popularity of Angry Birds, Ellen DeGeneres' new game by the name of Heads Up! ($0.99) is on its way to that kind of international stardom, becoming the #1 app days after its release May 2. Of course, it doesn’t hurt to be backed by an Emmy-winning daytime talk show host.

People have been using the idea behind this game at parties for years; Heads Up! just brings it into the 21st century. You can play the game with as little as two players, but it is much more fun in a group of people. The game is simple: players choose from a large selection of “decks,” which include categories like accents, singing, celebrities, movies, animals, characters, and more.

The “it” player places the idevice on his forehead (or otherwise out of eyesight) and other players try to describe the word. When the player guesses the word, she tips the device forward, which moves the game onto the next word. The goal is to guess as many words correctly as possible in the time given.

While this could easily be a standard card game, the use of the iPhone or iPad adds a certain flair and appeal. Tipping the device to change cards shaves off countless moments in a game where time matters. Plus, you'll no longer need to keep track of hundreds of cards, hoping you have the right number of cards in the right deck.

The standout feature is the use of the forward facing camera, which catches all the action for use as blackmail or to post to Facebook.

So why has this app risen to super stardom so fast? It doesn’t hurt to have a big celebrity name like Ellen DeGeneres behind it, but you better believe this app would be on its way to Angry Birds status anyway. At a time when so many games are drawing people into single player game play, this game becomes the life of the party. At just $0.99, Heads Up! is very reasonably priced. Most of all, it is a genuinely fun, family-friendly game with loads of replay value that will keep players entertained for hours. The app sells itself— within minutes of playing you will be wondering why you hadn’t purchased it sooner.

Go into Accessibility under General Settings, scroll down to Hearing and turn on Custom Vibrations. Then head to Sounds, scroll down to Vibration Patterns and tap Vibration. There, you’ll find a number of standard options and a final option to Create New Vibration, where you can tap the screen to create a vibration pattern of your own.
