Left Swipe Peek Notifications – WP8 Concept

Posted: 24 Jun 2013 11:21 AM PDT

Here’s another notifications concept for WP. It’s a left swipe but with a difference. Instead of having another screen there (e.g. notifications  << >> Tiles << >> App List) there’s just a column of additional icons, one part doing quick controls, another for notifications.26542996 20422442

It would work, though I would like to see that pull down that has been teased a bit.

This suggestion was submitted February 28th 2013, and has over 11 thousand votes in the wp user voice feature suggestion section.

Reply from April via WP Admin apparently:

Thanks for your notifications suggestion. Always great to see such great feedback and suggestions. While we can't promise to ship every suggestion that gets submitted, we will be sure that our product development team receives your feedback. What's another great idea? Keep those votes coming!

Other seemingly normal, frequent requests. Wallpaper:

I’ll leave it at that because I’ll be here all day writing up the features that should already be in WP8.

We were emailed these screenshots by S.M.A.Sithick who has just updated the maps data on his Lumia which now welcomes Indoor Venue Maps for India.

In Here Maps you can select different floors to view all the different stores in place. It may be city/town dependent whether you get some indoor venues mapped.

Windows Phone UK’s Nokia Lumia 820 promo – #Reinvented

Posted: 24 Jun 2013 08:07 AM PDT

Screen Shot 2013-06-24 at 16.01.42Also using the #reinvented theme is WindowsPhoneUK. They tweeted about this video which shows the Nokia Lumia 820 helping to ‘avoid’ a fashion disaster. The theme appears to be animal/wild. The fashion faux-pas to avoid appears to be wearing the same thing as another one of your friends. So to look ‘lively’ the main girl went all out with the leopard print and chose a onesie. Direct connection with Lumia/Nokia? Hmm…

Take a look at how this crowdsourced video by Ian and Vibol for #WindowsPhoneUK brings out our wild side: #reinvented

Fashion faux pas? No problem. Two young creative geniuses, Ian and Vibol, have made us a rip-roaring film about Windows Phone’s animal magnetism — and here it is. Watch their film now to see how Windows Phone can help with whatever life throws your way.

The reinvented theme seems to connect a lot with imaging too at WindowsPhone.

Ali and I and a jokey twitter war some weeks ago regarding the best colour for the Nokia Lumia 920, was it The Electric Pikachu #TeamYellow or #TeamRed.

Well, a lot of the Nokia related twitterverse seems to have decided :p thankfully due to the Nokia event in New York (July 11) that Nokia folks are pushing #TeamYellow! Sorry Ali :p You’ve still got Jessica (oh wait, didn’t she move to #TeamWhite :p)

Anywhoo, you might have noticed a lot of twitter folk having the Zoom 11 on their avatar. How to do this?

Damian Dinning, Nokia’s once legendary Imaging Guru explains:

Please help support Nokia #ZoomReinvented, add a #Twibbon now!

The link is:

You can change it so it occupies half or less than that of your avatar.

Can’t wait to see what Nokia’s been working on. Kudos on Damian for his continued support to Nokia’s imaging sectors!

Cheers to everyone bugging about #TeamYellow – I got confused which TeamYellow you were on about.

Actually @giodelgado started the #Yellowteamcampaign based on my PS idea a couple days before that

Video: Temple Run on Nokia Lumia 620 (512MB) –

Posted: 24 Jun 2013 06:04 AM PDT

Screen Shot 2013-06-24 at 13.59.05

There was a bit of kerfuffle whether TempleRun had been optimised for the 512MB Nokia Lumia devices yet. Here’s a demo of it running quite well on the Nokia Lumia 620 (and should perform the same on the 520 and 720).

Как оказалось, игра Temple Run все же может работать на устройствах с 512Mb и это видео прямое тому доказательство.

As it turned out, the game Temple Run can still run on devices with 512Mb and this video is a direct proof of that.

Note: It’s not officially in the store yet. This appears to be part of the store hack we mentioned yesterday.

Instructions from the video uploader:

1. Open settings – wifi and connect to your wifi.

2. Tap on it again and enable “Proxy”

3. Enter APN port 8888, push button done below;

4. Go into store and find Temple run. Open it but DONT INSTALL!

5. Push “Home”;

6. Go into settings again – wifi – your wifi and disable proxy. Push button done.

7. Return into store, where is open temple run.

8. Install it.

Usual disclaimer about safety and all that regarding privacy on using proxies and whatever else it is you should be aware of when ‘modifying’ how your Lumia is meant to access the store.

Videos: Adam Giles demoes the Nokia Lumia 925 on Carphone Warehouse’s Eye Opener Channel

Product Experience Manager at Nokia, Adam Giles is on Carphone Warehouse’s  Eye Openers channel demoing the panoramic photo feature on the Nokia Lumia 925.

Adam has been featured here a few times as he seems to be one of the few people Nokia have that can actually demo Nokia handsets properly, i.e. naturally, informatively but in an interesting and  usually captivating manner.

To be fair, presenting is a lot harder than it seems to it’s best to keep using someone who knows what they’re doing and does it really well.

There’s more Adam here:

And finally, Adam ‘reviewing’ the 925.

Interesting demo here. Look how the camera filming the 925 appears to be in the dark but this photo was captured by the 925, with the person just in front.

Screen Shot 2013-06-24 at 13.53.35

I love action shot!

Screen Shot 2013-06-24 at 13.55.59

All the camera apps have improved greatly. The only one I have an issue with is panorama. Why? I remember sweeping panoramas on my Nokia N900. Sure, for accuracy and also the use of OIS it might help to align and pause – but for overall usability, sweep might be better.

Nokia Germany this time with a promo for the Nokia Lumia 925 which is said to beat the SGSIV and iPhone 5 in low light. Tests by others have also shown this is the case.

The sample photos shown look really nice actually.

Another local Nokia video, this time an 18 minute Asha story from NokiaEgypt.

Spoiler – I jumped to the end and saw an Asha being attached to some ballons with what appears to be an inspirational quote:
